Treatment resistance refers to failure to respond adequately to at least two evidence-based treatments to which a patient has adhered. The problem of treatment resistance is related to the complexity of mental health disorders, but also to a drift toward a biologically reductionist stance and focus on medication management, with little or no attention to non-biological factors that play a role in the causation and treatment of mental disorders (“A Psychosocial Perspective on Treatment Resistance”)
