The World Health Organization defines wellness as the optimal state of health. Health according to the World Health Organization is “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity” and mental health is “a state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, and can work productively and fruitfully.” Wellness involves a dynamic process of change to achieve this state of optimal health or complete well-being. While people need health care at some point in their lives, all need wellness at all times.
